Virtual Canonical Visit 2021

The Virtual Canonical Visit of the Superior General of the Religious of the Assumption, together with her General Council is a moment of grace for the Asia Pacific province.

Sr Rekha M. Chennattu, RA (India) will be joined by her Council members, Sr Irene Cecile (Philippines), Sr Isabelle (France), Sr Sandra (El Salvador), and Sr Martha Marie (Rwanda). Sr Isabelle and Sr Martha Marie will visit Assumption San Lorenzo school community on September 17.

The theme of the canonical visit is “Behold I am making something new. Listen, see the signs of hope, understand the newness.” With a missionary spirit from the outset, the Religious of the Assumption are especially involved in education supported by a life of prayer, adoration, and an intense community life. As an international congregation, Assumption sisters are located on 4 continents (Africa, America, Asia, and Europe) and number about 1200 in 33 countries. Their Generalate or headquarters is located in 17 Rue de l’Assomption in Paris, France.

#CalledtoLead: Dr. Jen Teves

“For four years as an undergraduate student at Assumption College San Lorenzo, the principle of ‘women of faith, women of action’ has been ingrained in me such that in every difficult situation life has placed me, I root myself in faith and ask myself: “how might I translate this faith into actions?’Today, I lead a team of 50 researchers scattered across 6 states (and counting). I lead my team with trust, authenticity, courage, and vulnerability. These principles have allowed me to lead my team with our humanity intact.”

Dr. Jennifer “Jen” Paragas Teves is currently the Research Director for Experience Design (XD) at Best Buy Co., Inc., Minnesota. She previously worked as an Experience Design Researcher for Target Corporation, Veritas Technologies, and Honeywell International. Jen has a Doctorate degree in Human Factors Psychology from Wichita State University, Kansas, where she specialized in studying intuitive visualization of information. She worked in the domains of retail, hospitality, automation, aviation, driving, consumer and enterprise software, and usability of physical and digital products. For the past three years, she’s been teaching graduate-level courses in Experience Design as an adjunct professor at Kent State University’s School of Information in Ohio.

HED Theology Department Coordinator receives PhD scholarship grant from prestigious London university!

Congratulations to our very own Professor Joey Oliva for recently receiving a PhD scholarship grant from St. Mary’s University, Twickenham, London!

A Theology Coordinator and Professor, and a Contributor in the book “New Thinking, New Scholarship and New Research in Catholic Education” published in New York and London (by Routledge), Professor Joey is set to take on even greater things and be a part of a worldwide research network.

Her Research Title: The extent to which Catholic Education affects and influences the formation of women leaders in the Philippines, will be funded by the All Hallows Trust PhD Scholarship, under the Global Researchers Advancing Catholic Education (G.R.A.C.E) Project.

Congratulations again, Professor Joey! The whole Assumption family is proud of you!

Welcome to School Year 2021-2022

A new normal school year has begun. Welcome to Assumption College School Year 2021-2022!
Over the course of the pandemic, we focused our energy and resources on providing and enhancing our online learning platform while maintaining a student-centric perspective. We constantly strived for creativity, new solutions, learnings and new approaches. A distinct combination of synchronous and asynchronous online courses, adaptive learning technologies, new educational methods and tools have made our students and faculty better prepared.
In this new normal, we remain steadfast in our mission as we adapt our approach and innovate in this challenging time. If there is one thing that the pandemic has not altered, it is our fundamental commitment to delivering the Assumption brand of transformative education.
