Teaching Reading Series: Teaching Academic Literacy

The Education Department of Assumption College partnered with the Center for Reading Assessment and Intervention, Inc. (CRAIN) on the Teaching Reading Series. The final Certificate Course in this series is on Teaching Academic Literacy for content teachers in the intermediate grades (grades 4-6), Junior and Senior High Schools and College. This course will also inform teachers how to support their students to learn effectively from academic texts such as textbooks, academic essays and research articles. It will also guide language teachers on principles and practices of reading and writing expository texts.

This intensive and applied course designed by Reading Specialist, Mr. Victor Villanueva will involve working on lesson plans, and doing teaching demonstrations. Coaches are assigned to the participants to help them improve their practice. It is scheduled for November 6, 13, 27 and December 4, 2021 from 9:00 am to 12:00 nn.
